MODEL BUILDING BLOCKS

 Process
Processes are very important to Vmodel models. All changes start at processes. Unless you have a process, your model can't explain why something is changing.

Processes increase or decrease the parameters of the basic objects in the model. For example: The process breathing decreases the amount of oxygen in the air. You show that by connecting the process with the amount of oxygen using a decreases arrow.

Because they increase and decrease things, processes are are vital to explaining the model target or helping your model explain your predictions. You can't have change in your model unless you have a process!

Some processes are linked to basic objects with a "does" link. That means that the process doesn't exist unless that basic object exists.

All processes come with the parameter "rate." The rate is how fast or slow that process happens. Like all other parameters, the rate can be changed by increases/decreases or influences links. You can add other parameters to a process, too.

Some processes only happen if certain conditions are right. For example, the process melting only happens if the temperature is above freezing. Advanced students can right click on the process and get a "requires" link to attach a process to the thing that it needs before it will happen.
