MODEL BUILDING BLOCKS

 Parameters
Parameters are ways that you describe your basic objects. They are a special kind of desicriber. Usually, its possible to think of parameters as something that you can use a number for. So age, amount, temperature, height, weight, etc. are all parameters.

Parameters are important because they're the things that are increased or decreased by processes. For example, someone can have an age, and the process aging can affect it. A school of fish can have an amount and a process (fishing) can decrease it. The air can have a temperature and a process heating can increase it.

Parameter boxes are not for exact number values. Even if you know the exact number value of something, you shouldn't put it in the box. For example, if your model is about why the height of plants is increasing, you should put "height" in a parameter box, and not the exact value (in other words, not two feet high.) This way when you use the increases and decreases links, it will make sense. The process growing can increase "height," but it can't increase "two feet high."

There are different kinds of parameters.

 Amount
An amount is a measurement of how much or how many of something there is. Example: I have an amount of money in the bank and an amount of hair on my head.

 Level
A level is something that can go up or down. Examples: Tanya's level of achievement is going up, and her dad's level of anger is going down.

Rate
Rate describes a process. Rate is how fast or slow the process goes. For example, your heart beats, which is a process. How fast it beats is its rate.

Parameter
Use this when you don't find a specific parameter from the list above that works for your model. Example.
