UNDERSTANDING VMODEL

Getting help from coaches.

There are two kinds of coaches in Vmodel: The professor and the builder. Both of these are here to help you make better models.

The builder coach.
The builder appears in the upper right hand corner of your screen when you are making models. (See screen shot) As you make a model, the builder watches the kinds of links you put in, and makes sure that you are using links correctly. When a link is incorrect, the builder will turn its label red. If you click on it, you will get information about why it is incorrect and then you can fix it. If you click on the builder's face, a panel will open up at the right hand side of your screen telling you what the builder has to say about your model.

 The builder smiles if all of your links are right.

 The builder looks puzzled if some of your links are right and some are wrong.

 The builder looks angry if most of your links are wrong.

You cannot go into analysis mode until the builder is happy with your model. Once you think you are ready to go into analysis mode, the builder will do another check to see if the model is complete.

• He will check to see if your model has at least one process or increases or decreases link.
• He will also look for a prediction.
• He will also check to make sure that you don't have any influences loops.

Then you will be ready for the professor.

The professor

When you go into analysis mode, the professor will check over your model. The professor will look for two things: If your model is clear, and if your model explains your problem statement.

 If your model is unclear, the professor looks confused.

If your model matches your predictions, the professor smiles.

WARNING: These coaches look at how you make your models, not if your models are right. They look at whether you are using the modeling elements right and whether your model matches your predictions. They can't tell if you are missing processes or if your predictions are right in the first place. Ask your teacher for that kind of feedback.

By clicking on "e-mail Doc V" you can send an e-mail to the Vmodel development team. Your model will be included in the e-mail. You can report a bug in the software or you can ask a question about your model or modeling.
